We have an exciting opportunity available for a Plant Controller to support our Manufacturing operations in Milford, MA. The Milford plant is a large, complex multi-faceted manufacturing operation. The site consists of a precision machine shop, assembly/kitting operations and new product introduction manufacturing. With ~400+ employees within the operation the Milford site is responsible for supporting our Liquid Chromatography, Service and Chemistry product lines representing ~$0.4B of direct revenue as well as indirect revenue across several other plants. The Plant Controller will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing and reporting on variances from the production process including labor utilization and efficiency, material usage and scrap as well as overall P&L & capital spend management. This role will also serve as the primary Finance business partner to Milford site Director by providing financial leadership for all operational activities as a member of site leadership team.



General Accounting & Internal Control

  • Perform monthly closing of financials for the plant in accordance with GAAP with income statement & balance sheet responsibility, including journal entries and reconciliations

  • Responsible for maintaining accounting processes associated with Waters instrument and spare parts Warranty & Repair activity

  • Identify and resolves various day to day issues associated with accounting processes

  • Ensures an adequate system of internal control is maintained, and that general ledger accounts are correctly stated, maintains SOX compliance

  • Inventory Control for raw materials and work in progress. This includes excess and obsolesces reviews and monitoring inventory turn analysis

  • Create standards for new manufactured parts

  • Responsible for the accuracy and annual updating of the standard costs starting with the bill of materials and item costs, labor routings, labor rates, as well as overhead assignments


Controlling & Business Partnership

  • This position will provide financial reporting, planning and analyses for the Milford manufacturing sites operational metrics to proactively drive improved business results

  • Analyze, understand, and explain the reasons for movement of direct and indirect costs, manufacturing variances, inventory, and headcount including month, quarter to date and year to date comparisons to budget, forecast and prior year

  • Serve as primary Finance business partner to Milford site Director by providing financial leadership for all operational activities as a member of site leadership team

  • Support annual financial requirements, including AOP, Standard Cost updates and Fixed Asset audits

  • Business partner with manufacturing Center of Excellence to help standardize and automate key business driver reporting

  • Other ad-hoc reporting and projects as required 

Achieve Profitable Growth 

  • Assistance in the development and implementation of cost reduction initiatives (Lean/Six Sigma); self-initiation of new ideas and working with Operations Management

  • Consistent performance measurement around Productivity, Capital investments and Inventory management



  • 8+ years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment 

  • BS in Finance/Accounting (MBA Preferred)


  • Position requires high levels of organization, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, concurrently handling multiple projects

  • Must possess strong leadership, analytical skills and sound business judgment and be comfortable working with senior management

  • Strong cost accounting knowledge

  • Expert proficiency in Excel including pivot tables, lookups and other advanced functions

  • Experienced using an enterprise wide business system – SAP preferred

  • Experience with BPC/HCM a plus

  • Big 4 or mid-tier accounting firm / audit in a manufacturing environment experience a plus

  • A self-starter who can initiate and complete projects

  • Possess excellent analytical and communication skills with the proven ability to communicate with all levels within the organization
