We are a leading global provider of reusable and single-use thermal packaging solutions for the shipment of temperature-sensitive material, principally serving the pharmaceutical, biotech, health care and medical device industries. 

The Cost Accountant will provide business support to the plants and the financial management team. This position will be responsible for gross margin analysis, identifying and tracking component cost of goods sold and the underlying activities driving those costs, and cost evaluation projects including activity-based costing and the development of data accumulation systems which provide an appropriate level of costing information and analysis to management. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Prepare, analyze and report weekly, monthly, quarterly gross margin analysis by product, product category, customer, and plant

  • Review daily bookings, identify, and investigate sales order lines which do not meet gross margin targets

  • Develop activity-based costing models which enable analysis of periodic profitability by product line, product category, and plant

  • Report on periodic cost variances and their causes

  • Construct data accumulation systems for cost accounting evaluations and reports

  • Monitor standard costs and ensure item and bill of material cost accuracy, including raw material costs, routings for the application of labor, and overhead

  • Provide cost estimates for new products under development

  • Accumulate and apply overhead costs as dictated by company policy and generally accepted accounting principles

 

  • Prepare and manage annual physical inventory and assist with on-going cycle count program

  • Investigate cycle count variances and resolve issues

  • Analyze inventory valuation, turnover, obsolete and slow-moving inventory

  • Assist in month-end closing, prepare GL journal entries as necessary

  • Support and assist internal department reporting requirements such as audit schedules, tax schedules, and others

  • Assist in capital budgeting and capital expenditure approval process

  • Perform cost analysis tasks for special cost related projects

  • Other duties and ad hoc projects as identified

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and/or Accounting

  • 2+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment

  •  Experience with a top-tier ERP system

  • Strong computer literacy and skills, particularly with Excel and report writing

  • Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data

  • Strong organizational and communication skills and multi-tasking ability

  • Occasional travel required
