Director of Compensation and Benefits

Seeking someone with the combination of strong benefits and compensation experience .Ideal hire has and experience planning and launching open enrollment.  

This position provides leadership in the design, implementation and maintenance of cost-effective and compliant compensation, benefit, and retirement programs.  Works collaboratively with the broader HR team as well as cross-functionally to ensure effective support to the business through the implementation and ongoing improvement of HR processes, technology and services. Delivers HR goals and priorities in an optimal manner.  In all matters, removes barriers to success. 

Education and Experience
10 years of experience and progressive responsibility in Human Resources; prior management experience required. 
Experience consulting with and influencing executive management in the design, development, and execution of strategies and initiatives. 
Track record of delivering exceptional service experience, particularly for multi-site organizations. 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities : 

 

Operational/Functional:
  • Directly and through subordinate staff, provides for the optimal delivery of all benefits programs.   Recommends and oversees the implementation, compliance with and support of new and existing employee benefits programs.  Drives the plan selection, annual renewals, contract negotiation, and benchmarking process.
  • Provides critical support and proactive risk assessment in the due diligence process for new ventures, mergers and acquisitions.  Effectively onboards converted employees to benefits plans, ensuring that there is optimal and effective communication of benefits information and access to enrollment instructions.
  • Ensures company compliance with all regulations and laws related to benefits, retirement plans, compensation leave and disability.
  • Serves as Plan Administrator for the company’s retirement plan.  Participates in Plan Committee Meetings, files year end non-discrimination testing and 5500 and ensures that materials are provided to auditors in timely manner. Ensures that integration, onboarding, offboarding and payroll issues are resolved to mitigate plan risk.  Oversees the planning and coordination of 401K education meetings.
  • Oversees the monitoring of I-9 obligations across the company.  Is deliberate with guidance to HR on compliance alerts and escalates as necessary.
  • Oversees the annual compensation cycles (executive, exempt and nonexempt cash compensation programs) for corporate and hotel staff.  Designs the tools, process, and audit mechanisms related to the collection of pay increase and bonus recommendations, review and communication of approvals.  Ensures that appropriate approvals are garnered and documented per company requirements. 
  • Evaluates and recommends new and existing compensation survey sources to ensure the company has appropriate market intelligence for industry and competitive labor markets.
  • Keeps apprised of federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations to ensure company compliance.
  • Leverages compensation expertise to counsel leaders on appropriate pay actions.
Strategy and Planning:
  • Oversees the annual open enrollment process.  Ensures that project timelines are adhered to, communication objectives are met, employee enrollment tasks are configured and available during the open enrollment window, and integrations to the carriers are tested and delivered.  Designs, in collaboration with payroll, an audit process that will ensure deductions commence and are maintained in an accurate manner.  Ensures business processes in the HRIS and Payroll systems are configured to comply with benefits plan documents. 
  • Participates in Claims reviews and utilizes analysis to inform Wellness strategies.  Oversees the coordination of content delivery that has the highest impact to health outcomes through the organization’s learning management system.
  • Identifies way in which business processes can move toward low-touch high quality and ensures that near term decisions align with the end goal.
  • Financial Management:
    • Holds brokers accountable for delivering valuable services to the company in proportion to their fees and commissions. 
    • Manages the Leave of Absence vendor relationship to ensure that SLAs are met and that processes are engineered to capitalize on the outsourced relationship. 
    • Manages budget, billing cycles, expenses and other financial planning and responsibilities associated with the department.

  • Plans, reviews and delegates work based on appropriateness of level.  Ensures that work offers enough challenges and support based on strengths, skills and interests.
