Financial Excel Modelling Analyst

The Financial Excel Modelling Analyst is responsible for leading the optimization of excel models and reports that are used by Global Finance and Accounting teams. This includes defining, documenting, and driving efforts to achieve maximum performance, consistency, quality, and reliability from the excel models and reports. Qualified candidates will have the ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously. This position requires high analytical, communication, and planning skills, along with an eye for detail. This position will report into the Senior Manager Global Finance, Business Process Innovation and Technology Strategy.

 Must Haves:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of industry experience in Accounting/Finance/IT/Finance Systems 
  • Microsoft Excel expert especially in “Best Practices” for workbook structure and design 
  • Experience in optimizing Excel workbooks for size and speed
  • Expertise in developing financial reports in Excel utilizing a variety of techniques to include external data retrieves, links, pivot tables, lookups, graphs, etc.
  • Experience working with documents on SharePoint
  • Experience working in OneStream and/or Hyperion financial suite of products, as well as larger industry toolsets for Global finance and accounting platforms, such as Essbase, Oracle EPBCS, HFM, SAP, JDE 
  • Must stay current with latest Excel platform features


  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration/management, data analysis/computer science or course work in database management, information systems, or any combination of education and technical experience which would provide an equivalent background is Required

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Excel Add-ins OneStream Quick View and/or Oracle SmartView
  • Experience working with financial teams is a big plus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and play a fundamental lead role in developing Excel Best Practices and Standards for the Global Finance department, which includes training material and training users on new methodologies for Excel usage
  • Technical lead on developing standards and best practices for excel reports especially as it relates to retrieving data from external sources, linking to external sources, as well as calculations, transformations, and general excel report formatting
  • Serve as a liaison between finance/accounting users and other stakeholders who are helping to optimize the excel models such as IT, vendors, partners, training teams
  • Make recommendations on best use of excel functionality, including most efficient and performant methods for designing and structuring reports in excel to meet business goals and objectives
  • Assist and guide business users with issues encountered with their excel models, the most common and prevalent issue being that their excel workbook will “crash” or “freeze”, and work with users to troubleshoot such issues
  • Help users with optimizing their excel reports, excel models and ad-hoc reports – many of which are retrieving large amounts of data from systems such as: Hyperion Financial Management System (Financial Consolidation System), Oracle Enterprise Planning and Budgeting (EPBCS), OneStream (Financial Consolidation System), JD Edwards (Enterprise General Ledger)
  • Create, debug and modify Microsoft Excel and Access macros and workbooks
  • Assist users with either optimizing existing financial models or sometimes re-creating or re-building excel workbooks from scratch, which may include data validation and data reconciliation
  • Majority of time will likely be spent on this aspect of the role – supporting users with recreating of workbooks to follow best practice
  • Make recommendations on strategies for Organizational Change management, training and communication: Suggest efforts to understand impact of process and excel usage changes on users; strategies for minimizing organizational disruption, streamlining transition and improving adoption
