Client Job Title: Human Resources Generalist 1

Temporary – 1 year contract

 

Job Location: – ON SITE (No remote work at all)

Onsite – address, parking info – San Diego, CA, 

Hours: 8-5 (40 hrs/week)

San Diego office  focuses on building medical devices parts & pieces (around 200 employees)

 

 

 

Team Size: working with a few other HR employees

 

Interview Process: 2 -3 rounds
1) Teams interview with HR Manager
2) In person interview HR Manager and other employees – hopefully can combine Teams interview same day with Global Director of HR (as she site in HQ ) – otherwise that would have to be a separate round (30 mins)

 

Must Haves:
 

  • 3 years experience with Associates Degree
  • Minimum 3 years of professional-level California HR experience required
  • Thorough knowledge of California employment law, workers’ compensation, and statutes.
  • Strong personal computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or another relevant field preferred or equivalent.
  • SHRM-CP/PHR/PHR-CA certification a plus
  • Bilingual English-Spanish highly preferred
  • ADP or other HRIS experience a plus
  • 3 or more years previous HR experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred

SUMMARY

Performs day to day HR activities in support of site employees, including: administration of HR policies, procedures and programs. The Human Resources Generalist carries out the responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations and support; training, development, and succession/career planning; benefits; compliance; performance management; wellness; organizational development; recruitment support as needed; reporting, and special projects.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of professional-level California HR experience required
  • SHRM-CP/PHR/PHR-CA certification a plus

 

JOB SKILLS

  • High energy, initiative, and excellent critical thinking skills are a must!
  • Thorough knowledge of California employment law, workers’ compensation, and statutes.
  • Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of payroll and human resources work
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to support plant operations
  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • ADP or other HRIS experience a plus
  • Excellent communication and conflict management skills; works effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to provide counsel and convey a positive and professional image to employees.
  • Ability to read, interpret and uphold our policy, procedures and culture through positive relations with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to speak effectively in front of groups of managers and employees.
  • Ability to calculate and check figures, amounts, retroactive amounts, and percentages.
  • Ability to effectively solve practical problems and make timely decisions.
  • Able to maintain a clean and organized working environment.

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Thoroughly and objectively investigates employee relations issues and complaints and makes recommendations for appropriate action in support of/directed by the Human Resources Manager.
  • Educates all levels of employees on company policies and procedures.
  • Administers and upholds state and federal legal regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Supports administration of benefits, ADP, payroll, and the performance/LMS. Displays excellent attention to detail and adherence to deadline in support of payroll and timekeeping compliance.
  • Responds to and follow up on unemployment claims to ensure correct information is given outside agencies
  • Responds to inquiries on employment verifications, pay, benefits, and other matters in line with company policy.
  • Maintains electronic employee files; supports required recordkeeping for payroll and timekeeping databases. As appropriate, also maintains hard copy records, benefit files, medical records, and termination files.
  • Designs and writes reports to meet management requests and needs for payroll and HR related information
  • Regularly provides training, to include new hire orientation; some safety training; ADP training for managers and employees; and talent management training sessions as appropriate.
  • Supports daily inquiries, to include:
  • Communications to employees of any changes occurring with the plan as directed by the carrier or payroll
  • Medical leave and leave of absence administration
  • Accurate processing of all employees leaves (i.e. FMLA, CFRA, LOA, etc.)
  • Claims resolutions via our third party provider.
  • Assists with Open Enrollment preparation
  • Supports Division recruitment team with overflow phone screens, entry-level site tours and interviews.
  • May schedule interviews, follow up with candidates, and ensure new hires are prepared for their first day.
  • Performs administrative duties in HR, to include correspondence and reports on payroll, investigations, and procedures; photocopying, newsletter, filing, document packets, etc.

Other duties may be assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS

This is an air-conditioned facility with many pieces of equipment that produce heat. The following are potential items encountered: fumes, dust, noise, hazardous/toxic chemicals. Appropriate training is provided and documented based on job placement that complies with OSHA and EPA regulations.

 

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

ASTM F–2412–2005, ANSI Z41–1999, or ANSI Z41–1991 rated safety toed shoes and clear ANSI Z87.1 safety rated glasses are required for the job.
