Tax Accountant

 

Summary:

Participates in the preparation and review of income tax returns and other tax compliance packages while working with trust officers and an outsourced tax vendor in order to provide exceptional service to our clients.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assists in the review of compliance reporting of all custodial and tax-deferred accounts prepared by the outsourced tax provider.
  • Assists the Senior Tax Accountant in the review of income tax returns of various Revocable, Irrevocable, Estate and Charitable entities on an as needed basis.
  • Provides outsource tax provider with all tax worksheets and monthly holding reports needed for the preparation of annual tax returns for Charitable entities.
  • Calculates and tracks all required minimum distributions on tax deferred accounts and timely remits any requested tax withholdings.
  • Takes direction from the Senior Tax Accountant for the quarterly payment and mailing of all non-electronic remittances of individual and fiduciary tax estimates to ensure payments are made timely and confirms receipt of same by the IRS and various state revenue agencies
  • Prepares quarterly household employee wage reports & annual tax filings.
  • Inputs data for preparation of small number of individual income tax returns. Clears points and makes any needed changes requested by reviewer to finalize returns and create deliverable to tax client.
  • Works closely with Relationship Managers in obtaining new Employer Identification Numbers from the Internal Revenue Service
  • Interacts with Relationship Managers and outsource tax provider to manage workload and data review throughout tax season, including coordinating delivery of Fiduciary tax packages to outside Trustees.
  • Drafts correspondence in response to inquiries from Federal and state taxing authorities relating to individual tax clients and coordinates same with outsource tax provider as they relate to fiduciary entities.
  • Reconciles tax refunds to expected proceeds and deposits funds to trust accounts.
  • Performs daily administrative tasks and periodic projects, as assigned by management.
  • Responds to inquiries from clients, Trust and Administrative Officers and the Bank’s third party tax provider as they pertain to clients’ tax situations.
  • Researches and remains current on federal and state tax law for purpose of responding to inquiries from clients or internal relationship managers.
  • Maintains proactive tracking of various assigned tasks to ensure an efficient and organized tax season.
  • Works closely with Senior Tax Officers in managing and meeting monthly filing deadlines.
  • Performs additional duties, as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or taxation.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of tax preparation experience, preferably in high volume, private wealth management tax department, with focus on fiduciary returns.
  • Knowledge of SunGard Advantage, OneSource Trust Tax, and Thompson-Reuters Ultra Tax CS preferred but not required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn various tax and trust related systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Motivated, self-starter with aptitude for researching and interpreting various tax laws.
  • Independent and accountable; works and communicates well with others.
  • Flexibility.
