The Tenant Accountant is responsible for the resident accounting system, which produces resident rent statements, tracks, all financial and non-monetary resident data, and provides budgetary statistics relative to agency's income for the Low Rent Program Budget. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 

  • Research lost or misdirected rent payments and money orders through the bank and/or money order companies.

  • Instruct Housing Management staff on the preparation of data entry forms and interpretation of management financial reports.

  • Plan, schedule and direct the Tenant Accounting processing, including: posting of tenant charges and receipts, correction of tenant accounts, printing of rent statements, eviction notices, and management financial reports.

  • Evaluate, coordinate and implement operational procedures with departments interfacing the Tenant Accounting module.

  • Provide data to collection agencies for collection of bad debt accounts.

  • Work with agencies providing vouchers to tenants for payment of tenant accounts receivable to ensure proper payment of accounts.

  • Maintain detail for specific General Ledger accounts, providing analysis of revenues and revenue trending.

  • Prepare month end and year-end journal entries.

  • Reconcile specific balance sheet accounts.

  • Process agency-paid utility bills for payment.

  • Assist in the utility process, providing data to both utility companies and housing management to ensure the proper treatment of utility expenses and charges.

  • Support management decisions and encouraging teamwork and cooperation from all employees.

  • assist in the processing of accounts payable when needed.

  • Travel throughout the county to attend meetings or perform other job functions.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Extensive GAAP knowledge and strong accounting experience;

  • Strong work ethic and ethical character;

  • Impeccable attention to detail;

  • Excellent customer service and team collaboration skills; 

  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent ability to multi-task and thrive in a high-paced environment;

  • Internal audit or public accounting experience;

  • Strong ability to learn and apply governmental (Federal, State, Local) rules and regulations; and

  • Demonstrated experience working with financial software applications and Microsoft Office applications;

  • Advance proficiency in Excel;

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field; 

  • 2 years of demonstrated experience in finance/accounting including significant experience in A/P and A/R;
