Financial Reporting Manager- Chelmsford

 

Must Have:

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.

A minimum of 5 years leading a financial institution accounting/finance department and supervisory experience.

Proficient with Microsoft applications   

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel and Word) are required. Strong commitment to customer service, excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional appearance and manner.

Nice to Have:

CPA, CFA, MBA and/or public accounting experience preferred

 

 

Summary/Objective:

Responsible for supporting all internal and external financial reporting aspect of the accounting department. Provide oversight of financial reporting functions, understand/review of financial statements and analysis, responsible for ensuring all aspect of financial reporting conforms with GAAP, and the technical interpretation of existing and new accounting standard impacting the Credit Union. Provide supervisory leadership to the accounting team including recruitment and orientation of new staff, performance management and professional development. The position also include a multitude of accounting activities and ensure that all required deadlines are met.

  • Exercise administrative judgment and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on the accounting/finance department.

  • Exercise Credit Union policies, procedures and controls to the accounting/finance department.

  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop proper internal controls, more efficient procedures, and use of resources, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and completeness.

  • Ensure staffs are cross-trained and properly aligned with responsibilities. Mentor and develop the staff work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluations, and the building of an effective team dynamic.

  • Work with direct reports to establish performance goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of all staff.

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the preparation of internal and external reporting requirements, assigned analysis, and projects.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Credit Union departments.

  • Supervise, train and evaluate personnel and advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.

  • Manages the daily operations of the financial reporting team members.

  • Oversee and assist staff with month-end closing process and review month end reports for accuracy and reasonableness applying a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.

  • Coordinate preparation of third party audit and review materials.

  • Prepare presentations to Board of Directors and Senior Management Team.

  • Serve as primary resource for other areas of the Credit Union to explain accounting transactions, resolves accounting issues and/or discrepancies. Responsible for reconciliations of all general ledger accounts and ensuring that internal controls are in place.

  • Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and policies based on generally accepted accounting principles.     

  • Perform ad hoc general ledger and accounting projects and analysis for credit union management.

  • Manage the budgeting and forecasting processes, including evaluating consolidated, business unit and branch results to ensure reasonableness given prior year performance and upcoming year financial objectives.

  • Responsible for the tracking and analysis of daily cashflow (liquidity) movements and forecast.

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial reports for the overall Credit Union, individual cost centers, CUSOs, and lines of business within the Credit Union. Researches and oversight technical accounting analyses. Oversees implementation of new accounting standards and prepares technical accounting entries, such as the income tax accrual, as necessary. Responsible for being aware of current and implementing any changes to US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.

  • Prepare and submit various tax forms for the Credit Union.

  • Review, deliver and execute accurate financial reporting.

  • Support the reliability and operations of the accounting systems and processes to ensure the staffs perform their responsibilities efficiently.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Managers(s).

Supervisory Responsibility:

Responsible for supervising, supporting, evaluating and training the accounting supervisor on a day to day basis. This responsibility also includes the indirect supervision of the accounting staff.
