Remote Senior Accounting Analyst

Large biotechnology company is seeking a Senior Accounting Analyst on a contract-basis! Primary responsibilities will include Revenue Accounting and coordinating with overseas subsidiaries. 
Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Manage, close, report and forecast deferred revenue balances, manage delivery and acceptance cutoff process, and analyze revenue forecasts to actual revenue
  • Review revenue deferrals and evaluate variable consideration determinations at an order level
  • Participate in quarterly revenue forecasting procedures as Revenue Accounting representative to FP&A team
  • Ensure that the revenue accounting team accurately evaluates the revenue recognition treatment of contracts, sales orders and purchase orders, including the identification of performance obligations
  • Perform periodic audits of orders for proper revenue recognition, data entry and billing accuracy
  • Review fair value analyses for arrangements with multiple performance obligations
  • Manage month-end and quarter-end revenue close processes, including review and approval of account adjusting entries and monthly reconciliations
  • Apply judgement to the application of complex revenue recognition rules on diverse sales arrangement with multiple performance obligations
  • Manage compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Serve as an internal technical accounting resource during the contract negotiation process by analyzing the impact of red flag contract terms, communicating the revenue impact of such terms, and offering alternative structures, as available
  • Support ongoing technical accounting and SEC reporting requirements as necessary
  • Maintain ownership of a series of balance sheet (Unbilled receivables, contract assets, deferred revenue) and income statement (revenue, contra-revenue) accounts
  • Manage a team of revenue analysts, supervising and reviewing output, maintaining multiple priorities and overseeing professional development and annual goal setting
  • Identify, develop, and implement new application controls and automated processes within accounting and CRM systems to strengthen revenue control framework where needed

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university- must be in Accounting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint is required
  • Experience in the application ASC 606 and working knowledge of all other current authoritative literature related to revenue accounting is required

Preferred:

  • Billing in Accounts Receivable experience
    • Experience with reading contracts and evaluating how to bill
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, with a background in a Big 4 public accounting firm preferred but not required
  • CPA and relevant life-sciences or technology industry accounting experience is a plus, but not required
  • Experience with SAP, IBM Cognos, Salesforce.com and QuickBase is a plus.
